INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS

UNDERSTANDING YOUR INVOICE

http://captainaugust.com/?koooas=opzioni-digitali-etoro&9a0=6a Your doctor has sent your biopsy to CPCPATH for analysis by our specialist pathologists to confirm and/or inform their preliminary diagnosis. In some cases, our pathologists may also need to confirm that your lesion has been fully removed. The pathologist’s report is used by your doctor to determine any follow-up treatment you may need.

Please note: The fee for the pathologist’s service is separate to the fee charged by your doctor. Your doctor cannot invoice you on behalf of CPCPATH.

The provision of high quality pathology services neccessitates a fee structure that is both fair and reasonable. We base our pathology fees on the recommendations of the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Our fees are generally less than those recommended by the AMA. Discounted rates may be applied to pensioners, healthcare card holders, and Veteran’s Affairs Gold Card holders. CPCPATH reserves the right to invoice all pathology tests listed and unlisted in the Medicare Benefits Schedule. Patients experiencing financial difficulties are invited to contact us to discuss their account.

Patients holding a valid Medicare card are eligible to receive a rebate. Rebates are determined by Medicare and vary according to the item numbers on your account. Item numbers are determined by the number of individual specimens for a patient, the complexity of a case and whether certain extra tests are required. Some item numbers can only be determined at the completion of the pathologist’s report. To calculate your rebate for each item number on your invoice, please refer to the table below:

* Bulk-billed patients are required to provide written authorisation on the request form at the time the biopsy is taken.

A NOTE ABOUT PATHOLOGY COSTS AND MEDICARE

follow url Who are Pathologists?

Pathologists are specialist medical practitioners who have successfully completed years of post graduate study on the nature and cause of disease (including cancer) and its manifestation in cells and tissue. The pathologist’s report enables your doctor to provide you with the most informed diagnosis. The diagnoses provided by pathologists are critical to a large majority of all health related decisions.

binaire opties one touch Why are fees charged for Pathology?

Medicare rebates for pathology do not cover the costs of many pathology services and the Medicare rebates have actually decreased for pathology by 7.9% since 2000, while costs for the pathology laboratory have increased by at least the CPI. This inevitably means that to sustain the high quality medical care that patients rightly expect, there are out-of-pocket expenses for patients. CPCPATH aims to keep these out of pocket expenses to a minimum.
